John Richard Varess

John Richard Varess is an alcoholic who lives in a northern city in England. I chanced upon him as he was leaving the police van having spent another night in the cells. As he told me his life story he asked me to photograph him and use the images to 'prevent others ending up like me'. The last image includes his friend who overcame alcoholism.
